A Wonderful Way to Say 'I Believe'

 Dear Friends,

Just think,  if 100 people contribute $25 to help Tony and Ann Crowe, that would make $2500 plus $775 ($3275), enough to buy a 50' polytunnel, a gas-powered tiller, fence and wood to house chickens needed for organic farming. If 200 people contribute $25 each, that's $5000 plus $775 ($5775), and the Crowes could buy all the materials they need to get started with their small family horticulture business, plus a few Christmas presents for their eight kiddies. My list is about one hundred people, so to reach the $5000 goal, we urgently need your own help in spreading the word about this beautiful Advent opportunity.

But, you might ask, why should I support a family all the way in Ireland, when there are plenty of families right here in America who are out of work and in need?
  • While it might just as easily have been an American family, it happens to be an Irish family that has provided this opportunity, at this time, in this way, and their story specifically relates to Humanae Vitae. Today my dear friend Mary Harper sent me a link from LifeSite News that hints at another possible reason why our Leaven family might hail from Ireland. Click here to listen.
  • This is a wonderful way to stand with the Crowes in their own counter-cultural witness for life, so your support makes you also a witness for Humanae Vitae, a witness for life, not against life.
  •  Almsgiving is a way of atoning for sin, and who among us hasn't sinned in some way? YOU will be blessed for your generosity.
  • You either know me or know of me, so you can trust that your money will be given directly to the family. We have permission from our bishop to do Leaven activities in our diocese. If you don't know me, you can call the Family Life Office: 402.488.2040, Diocese of Lincoln, NE.
  • Administrative costs are minimal, as both my husband and I are employed outside of The Leaven. Your contribution will be gratefully acknowledged by e-mail if I have your address; otherwise, thank-you's will be sent by mail.
Twenty-five dollar donations could do SO much good to help Tony and Ann and their children. Twenty-five dollars is the price of a good DVD or popular CD; less than an evening out at the movies for two. Any donation is a great help when pooled together with others.

Small donations
pooled together could mean a HUGE difference in their lives, firstly, by the encouragement it would bring them that they are not alone; and, secondly, it would provide the means to work together as a family on a very good small business that the government is actually urging in Ireland, so it would help both them and others. These are dedicated Christians who have said YES to Humanae Vitae to the very best of their ability. When Ann Crowe told me that she suggested to Tony that they grow produce, and the very next time they went to Mass they saw an ad in their Sunday bulletin announcing government-sponsored programs to promote organic business, I saw that as more than just a coincidence. They were calling out to God for help in their need, and this opportunity matches skills that Tony already has from his youth!

I think Jesus implies by asking for the fund to be called 'leaven' that small amounts are good, acceptable, even pleasing to Him, since He knew full well He was making the request of a family that did not have financial wealth, unlike many other funds that people start out of their surplus. These are important, too, but this fund is intended to be like leaven, a small agent that eventually permeates the mass to enliven it, for life at a time when there are so many forces actively working against life.

Perhaps our Lord asked a family who didn't have much money (us) to start a fund called The Leaven because it is precisely from small donations that it will slowly grow to honor Him through Humanae Vitae. A true grassroots effort to spread the truth of Humanae Vitae, no matter what a government or other group might plan against life.

Please mail a check today f
or whatever amount you feel led to give: The Leaven, P.O. Box 81511, Lincoln, NE 68501-1511. Or, click on the donate button at the bottom of the page here to make your donation by credit card.

Above all, pray for us and for this effort.

May God continue to bless you this Advent season!
Juliana and Alton Davis

I am personally convinced that one person can be a change catalyst, a 'transformer' in any situation, any organization. Such an individual is yeast that can leaven an entire loaf. It requires vision, initiative, patience, respect, persistence, courage, and faith to be a transforming leader. -  Stephen Covey
