My own personal side effect of using an IUD was the loss of one child through a "late" period that was not really late at all, but early, early abortion, before I ever knew she existed. The moment it happened, I knew intuitively that something terrible had just happened that I could never take back, and I immediately made an appointment to have the thing removed. I later learned that with an IUD, conception (union of male sperm and female ovum = 24 chromosome tiny human being) can happen, but often not the implantation of the new being into the mother's uterine wall, or womb. After twenty-something years of having that repressed "silent" abortion screaming for acknowledgment through various emotional symptoms, I was set free through inner healing of a Rachel's Vineyard retreat. Since that time, I have committed myself to making the terrible truth known to other women, who like me, weren't aware or still aren't aware of that very common side effect of the IUD. If you have had an IUD, and you always feel like "something" is wrong, even if you no longer have that IUD, it's highly likely that something is wrong, but you can find healing and relief by acknowledging your lost child/children and loving them even now. God is merciful!
