Who are the "Poor of Humanae Vitae?": On Rick Santorum vs. Beck

It is the mission of Leaven for Humanae Vitae to give financial and prayer assistance to the poor of Humanae Vitae? What does this mean? Does it mean that if you live the teachings and values, you will be financially poor? Does it mean you and your children will be socially poor? Does it mean they will be educationally and maybe emotionally/psychologically poor?

Take two families:)
Family #1: Jones Family has 2 kiddos, and $35-$45K income. Both kids perfectly healthy. Both go to public school. Both parents work, use bc to maintain family size. Have family health insurance.

Family #2: Smith Family has 4 kiddos + 2 adopted. $45K income. Child #5 has special needs from birth complications. Mom stays home. Kids go to Catholic school, pay family tuition each month. Parents use natural fertility management, whereby Dad read's Mom's chart to co-ooperate with her fertile cycle. Can't afford family plan health insurance, but do have a DR. in the family who helps out pro bono.

10% /mo = $350-450/mo. on gross earnings. Is Family #1 giving more of the first fruits tithe, or is family #2 giving more? Are they obligated to give the same amount?

What do you think?

  1. Seems like family #2 is giving more, not just percentage-wise but in their whole way of living their Catholic faith. Of course, I don't know much about family #1, so there's plenty of room for error there.
