Dear Friends,
It seems fitting that the anniversary of the infamous Roe v. Wade decision is the day we share the good news about what you did, through your kind prayers and contributions, to encourage and support Tony and Ann Crowe and children of Clairemorris, County Mayo, Ireland in a most difficult time of great need.
It has been an interesting few months, raising money for this family, and we are deeply grateful to those of you who sent words of encouragement, especially, along with whatever donation you felt led to send. Some unexpected added difficulties arose for the Crowes, such as the loss of their car in an ice accident, but with the help you provided, they have prevailed. Tony bought another car for about $1000 dollars. He and Ann decided not to buy a tiller right away, but to rent one for the first tilling of their initial plot. Doing much shopping around, Tony has found a 50' x 18' polytunnel, which should be delivered the first of February. Instead of undertaking the chicken farm right off the bat, they have recently made acquaintance with a neighbor, who has offered free manure from his beef farm for the first growing season of organic produce.
The Leaven is privileged to honor a most expressively grateful Tony and Ann Crowe for their turning away from contraception and coming back to the teaching of Humanae Vitae, with $4500, with one or two pledges still to be received. No doubt, we will meet our goal of $5000 in short order! I wish each of you could hear their obvious surprise and gratitude for the unexpected source of help. Every time I talk to Tony, he expresses amazement that there actually has been money to help them at a particular time of struggle. Over and over, he expresses that he feels so unworthy to have received such a surprise blessing. He said most recently, "I guess we're an example of how the Lord works through the weak."
Alton and I could not agree more, as we understand more and more our own weakness in even daring to attempt to continue to pursue a fund called The Leaven. If there is anything that God has brought us to believe since Fr. Robert Silverman, of fond memory, first formally blessed The Leaven on the Feast of the Immaculate Heart in 1987, it's that how The Leaven proceeds depends entirely on the mercy of God and is according to His time, not ours.
Our Lord certainly surprised us this time, by pointing us in the direction of a family not even of our own country, but one in County Mayo, Ireland. I wonder if that makes us now The Leaven International!
Tony has promised to send a few pictures for us to post on our website soon. We look forward to that very much!
One more time, we rejoice to say that whatever particular project the Lord has led us to undertake, HE HAS NEVER FAILED TO BRING IT TO PASS! In our own lives, we give testimony that our God is truly an awesome God, in spite of our own many flaws and weaknesses.
We are most grateful to you for being there with us in this these past approximate three months. If you received my e-mails, it is because you are in my personal address book. I sent posts to everyone I could think of that I knew. If you prefer not to receive future e-mails regarding the activities of The Leaven, please simply respond with a blank reply, and I will remove your name from The Leaven e-mail list. Thank you for your patience.
Yours in Christ,
Juliana Davis
